I wanted to take this opportunity to say farewell to Sheila Leonard of Indiana; dedicated AKC Australian Shepherd breeder, animal ownership rights activist and friend. Sheila passed away last week from pancreatic cancer.
Sheila was a rare member of the AKC breeding community. She truly recognized the scope of animal ownership related legislation sweeping through the [...]
A short update tonight …
I’ve noticed a pattern over time with the HSUS press releases and CEO Wayne Pacelle’s blog, “Humane Nation”. The pattern? With noticeable frequency, issues used to attack their opponents are issues which are reflected within the HSUS itself. Some examples?
In “Humane Nation”, HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle attacks CCF founder Richard Berman [...]
It appears that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not above learning from those it has targeted.
On April 27, 2010 the HSUS filed a ‘color of Law’ suit against Ohio Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, in conjunction with Michigan lawyer Beatrice M Friedlander. The basis for the alleging Ms. Friedlander’s rights are [...]
With the myriad directions of attack on commercial animal use, I thought I’d dust off the 2006 Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA)and take a closer look at it. After looking at the AETA, I’m going to break this down into a series of 3 articles:
The 2006 AETA: What is it? How and where does it [...]
Save the Dogs, Screw the Children! That appears to be the theme of Indiana House Bill 1258, introduced by Indiana Reps. Lawson and Barnes on January 12, 2010. Just examine this section of HB1258, tacked into the bottom of the synopsis.
“Makes promoting an animal fighting contest a predicate offense under the racketeering statute. Makes attending [...]
AR-HR has been quiet for a few months now but not for the reasons you might think.
Have the poorly constructed animal ownership legislation campaigns ceased or even slowed? Not a bit.
Has the Humane Society of the United States been more open in the truth of its fundraising campaigns or use of funds? Nope, not according to [...]
Regardless of whether we agree on animal care and legislation perspectives, I think we can all agree to say goodbye and good riddance to 2009. I have been taking some time for reflection & to look at what I would write about to end 2009 and launch 2010.
I would like to use this space to say goodbye [...]
Waiting for her forever home
What would you say to a Metropolitan Animal Control department who’s:
Day-to-day operations are not funded by taxpayer dollars?
Canine licensing compliance rate is in excess of 90% and a feline licensing compliance rate at nearly 60% and rising?
Maintains NO pet ownership limit laws?
Has no Breed-Specific legislation, and sees no need of it?
Euthanasia [...]
The following is an outside perspective on the realities of dairy farming in response to the recent PETA ‘undercover’ video on one of the Land ‘o Lakes supplying dairies. Cathy Mills of Catren’s Shar-pei is the original author and retains all rights on this commentary. Re-printed with permission
She outlines the challenges much better than I [...]
The end of last week I was forwarded copies of documentation related to a lawsuit filed in Hawaii in response to another Humane Society of the United States ‘raid’. The details in this suit are not only horrifying but heart-breaking.
On September 11, 2009, Norman Pang of Hawaii filed suit against the following individuals:
Pamela Burns, President [...]
On August 2nd, the AR-HR.com article “Is Indiana House Rep. Linda Lawson Volunteering for HSUS on Constituents’ time” was released raising a number of ethical questions into her behaviour during this joint action by the Indiana Attorney General’s Office and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
On August 4th, the following article was released on the [...]
In light of recent documentation obtained regarding the seizing and sale of dogs in Southern Indiana, the question must be raised, “What is Indiana State Rep. Linda Lawson’s involvement in this situation?” Reported in a previous article by AR-HR.com, Rep. Linda Lawson was seen participating in the June 2, 2009 seizure of dogs from the [...]
It has come to light how the Humane Society of the United States gained possession of the dogs from the Indiana jeopardy tax assessment raid. On June 3, 2009, the HSUS purchased all 241 of dogs seized from the Garwood’s farm in Indiana for the grand total of $300 as shown in page 1 [...]
In a brief update, it appears AR-HR.com is not the only organization asking about due process in regards to the Garwood raid. The Garwood tax-related case, which resulted in the seizure of 241 dogs, went before Judge H. Lloyd Whitis in Harrison County, Indiana on Wednesday July 22, 2009.
The Attorney General’s office is arguing that the Garwood’s [...]
